best header image and header logo dimensions

hi

i want to know what are the best dimensions for the header image so that it fits all the header area with no color spaces

i also want to know the best dimensions for header logo

i tried to upload images and i resized them many times but without any chance to get the right size to fit the header area, they look either too small or with color space on the sides
