 * for counting views and visitors, i use the plugin [counterize II](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/counterizeii/).
   gives me enough information for my purposes.

 * Statcounter is free and simple: [http://www.statcounter.com/](http://www.statcounter.com/)
   but once signed up with Google Analytics [http://www.google.com/analytics/](http://www.google.com/analytics/)
   you will receive a better interface and more intuitive layout. Statcounter is
   a little old school but still effective so no honest complaints.
