• Hi there,

I was wondering if you could please help me understand the benefits of using this plugin compared to just ticking the ‘fancy editor media upload’ option under the settings for BBPress. I am not a developer and I’m just trying to figure out the best option for letting my (closed) forum members upload images.

    Thanks

  • Hi there,
Thank you for your inquiry! The “fancy editor media upload” option actually isn’t part of bbPress itself (even though it shows up on the bbPress settings page), but rather part of the third-party plugin “bbPress TinyMCE Visual Tab”. I haven’t properly tested that plugin, so I can’t really comment much on the differences between our plugin and that plugin, but I do see at first glance that it uses the WordPress media library uploader for adding media to posts. This means that forum users would need to have permissions to upload files to WordPress, uploaded images would probably be added to the media library, and forum users may be able to see the entire media library when uploading (again, I’m not sure of this since I haven’t tested it much). Our plugin does not use the WordPress media library, so it doesn’t use the WordPress media library uploader interface, images uploaded using our plugin would not appear in the WordPress media library in the admin, and forum users do not require upload permissions in WordPress.

I would recommend trying out both plugins and choosing the one that best meets the needs of you and your users.

    Hope this helps!

Ahhh, that’s REALLY helpful, thanks! I’ll definitely give your plugin a go, because I don’t want my forum members to have anything to do with the WP media library! Thanks again.

    Hi again,

I downloaded your plugin and started testing it out. It looks like it will be great for me except for one thing. On my Mac computer, the little modal window (hope that’s the right term) that pops up after clicking on the media icon, displays a little strangely. The button on the left hand side of the Cancel button, at the bottom of the window, displays blank with a blue border – no text.

Is this an issue with the plugin or do you think it’s something to do with my site?

I have a screenshot, but can’t send it as ironically there’s no media upload function on this forum! 🙂

Also, I found that you have a Youtube video discussing Version 2 of the plugin. Is this likely to solve the problem when it’s released?

    Thanks very much

    Hi there,
I think that this most likely has to do with your site; the modal window in the free version is part of the editor that is built in to WordPress, not part of our plugin, and it should be displaying correctly. If you provide a link to your site I’m happy to take a lookt – feel free to send it via email to info@potentplugins.com.

The video you’re referring to is for the pro version of the plugin – version 2 is already released. It includes the option of either using the same upload dialog as the free version, or an included drag-and-drop uploader. Of course, any conflicts with your theme or other plugins could affect either upload dialog, so it’s not a sure-fire fix.

    Hope this helps!
