we integrated into our site with no problems other than formatting the header to match the site.
Yes, provided you are able to create a WP theme that is exactly like your existing site’s design. Or, you find somebody to do it.
The restricted access… is somewhat trickier. It depends on what exactly do you mean by that.
It really wasn’t that difficult to do. We modify the style sheet by adding some of the styles we use in the main site.. and then modified the header to include the html buttons and images. Concerning the restricted access what we did was change the file permission for the header.php to 666 while we made the changes then back to 644 when we were done. in the dir /wp-content/themes/default (with the permission changed you can edit from inside the wordpress dashboard.

– Sorry, that’s nonsense!
The OP asked
support restricted access by members passwords – is this possible?
and your answer has nothing to do with it.
Furthermore, it is the worst advice possible to tell a complete newbie to edit files online when there is no UNDO button and in most of the cases they leave the files writable (=forget to change back the permissions) – open for hacking.
ok.. but in the WP manual it says “If the file is not “writable”, you will see a note under the bottom of the editing window telling you the file is not writable. You will need to CHMOD the file to 666 in order to make it writable through an FTP program (preferably FileZilla) before you can edit it.”
Yes but it does NOT SAY *and put it back the way you found it when you are done because otherwise any hacker can bring down your whole blog*. does it?
no it doesn’t but I did say that in my post.
jstiller,
Root and I are here for more than 3 years.
You are here for a few hours.
We know people never read carefully the warnings, they read a half sentence and then they jump.
We have seen too many hacked, screwed up sites to let you go away with that advice, sorry.
