# Before I install…

 * Hi folks,
 * Newbie here. Computer literate. Read a LOT but not all of the documentation and
   did a search before posting, but didn’t find enough just yet.
 * Big question is:
 * I have an HTML website. I have a domain. My host (HostMonster) offers a Cpanel
   install of WordPress.
 * What I want to do is maintain my existing web site until after I have installed
   WordPress and template, created content and I’m ready to go live. Then I’d like
   to archive my existing site and go live with WordPress.
 * I’m not sure if that means moving all I have created in WordPress to root or 
   simply changing the index.html in root to point to the WordPress install. I have
   read that a number of things can break from moving xyz.com/blog to xyx.com, so
   before I invest a great deal of time, thought I would ask the experts.

 * Install WordPress in a sub-folder initially. Then see [Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory](http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory#Using_a_pre-existing_subdirectory_install)
   when you want WP to take over the root domain.
