    Hello

I just received an email with the phrase
    “BETA TESTING?
    =============

This debugging email is sent when you are using a development version of WordPress.”

I do not have a development version (I hope!). I have just upgraded from 4.6.1 to 4.7.

Are you using a beta testing plugin?

I have not installed a new plugin for at least three months. So the answer is no.

Were you _ever_ using a beta testing plugin? They’re often annoying to uninstall properly.

I have never installed a beta version pluggin. I have always looked at the reviews and checked that it has been updated within the last six months, and that it is compatible with the wordpress version I am using.

What Mika is referring to, is the plugin that allows you to test new versions of WordPress before they are released (usually done by using the Beta Tester plugin at https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-beta-tester/), as once you’ve used to go on the beta track once, it can often be frustrating to stop using test versions again.

I do not test new versions of plugins nor do I test new versions of wordpress nor do I download any kind of application that is referred to as a beta.

Then I really have no idea how that happened 🙁 something changed you to the beta release.

If your site is on 4.7 then there’s nothing to worry about. If you’re not getting emails 2x a day about the beta updates, you’re good 🙂

I also have received this email:

This has made the website unresponsive. Can’t tail logs, or SSH in to my server.

I can’t confirm the “WordPress Beta” plugin has never been installed on this site, but it certainly wasn’t installed when this happened.

If it was installed once and you didn’t make sure, manually, to roll back to the non-beta track, you stay on it. There’s a warning about that in the plugin now :/

It would say if I was still on the Beta track though wouldn’t it? I don’t seem to be:

Strange my site sent this email when I’m not on the Beta track, like original poster.

If it happens again, try the “Reinstall now” button. Something may be weirdly out of sync (normally that would be a DB issue… if you know you have DB caching, try flushing it?)
