I really am not sure what version I'm using. I've always used Blogger and now Tumblr, but want to get more familiar with wordpress. My apologies is I'm on thee wrong forum.

My questions is: I cannot get the FaceBook widget to work. I have Twitter set up, but the Facebook like box just won't work. I was wondering if its too big? I then thought I would just put it in the text function, but that won't work either. An if there is a special code - like I found for twitter - I cannot find info or directions anywhere.

I've found WordPress Plugins, but I'm assuming that they're not available for the basics wordpress.

I would like to go up to Pro, but I teach a creativity class that includes setting up a free blogs and so would like the students to get as much out of the basic as they can before they upgrade.

If anyone has a moment to help I would appreciate it.

    Many thanks.

You're in the wrong forum. It sounds like you're using a WordPress.COM blog, so you need to ask at http://en.support.wordpress.com

See http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ for an explanation of the difference.

If by "Pro" you mean upgrades to your WordPress.COM site, those aren't free, and you still can't use plugins.

However, the WordPress software is free. You can download it with the Download link on the top right of this page. You'll have to purchase your own domain name and web hosting space.
