# Basic Slideshow Effect

 * Hello,
    I’m having an issue that I have tested on a couple sites using different
   themes/plugins. When I place a Basic Slideshow on page, no matter what I set 
   for the effect it always just uses Fade.
 * I noticed this after updating WP and NextGen. I have verified the shortcode is
   showing the effect I want, but when viewing the page it is just Fade in/out.
 * Something I might be doing wrong? Or something else to look for? I’m not seeing
   any Console errors.

   this to our attention, we will have to review how best to correct this issue 
   although a hack/work-around that may help in the meantime is commenting out the
   conditional statement at line 249 in ../wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/
   photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_basic_gallery/package.module.nextgen_basic_gallery.
   php
 * Look for:
 *     ```
       if (!isset($params['display_settings']['cycle_effect']) or !$params['cycle_effect']) {
           $params['cycle_effect'] = 'fade';
       }
       ```

    I’ll use your temporary fix. Do you know if this is a problem with
   the Plus version’s slideshow? [NextGen Gallery Pro Slideshow](https://www.imagely.com/wordpress-gallery-plugin/pro-slideshow-gallery/)
 * I’m thinking about upgrading mainly for the hover controls, but might want it
   to slide instead of fade.

 * I purchased the Plus version, and can confirm the Pro Slideshow works fine. The
   Basic slideshow is the only one with the issue.
