# Basic Settings

 * Dear someone,
 * I have recently installed the Post by Mail plugin and I was wondering about how
   to set the basic settings.
 * In the activity log I now get:
    An error occurred: Error when communicating with
   the mail server. IMAP.
 * I’m using a gmail account. Can anyone tell me what to exactly fill in at both
   the basic and the mailbox details.
 * That would be of great help. Thanks so much

 * First, make sure you’ve enabled IMAP in Gmail. There are instructions here: [https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/1668960?hl=en#ts=1665018](https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/1668960?hl=en#ts=1665018)
 * Then, use the following settings:
    Server: imap.gmail.com Port: 993 SSL: Yes
 * For the username, make sure to use your full Gmail address, including the “@gmail.
   com” part.
 * Let me know if you still have problems!

 * Thanks for your reply.
    I did enable the IMAP in Gmail and also used the same
   settings you proposed but it doesn’t work.
 * Is there anything else I could try.

 * Here I’m again. I used a new email adres now and that seemed to work. But the
   messages kept having the pending status.

 * Also the pending problem is solved. The only problem left is the fact that the
   images do not show. Just a frame with a question mark.
