Base(primary) user reg fields

After installing BuddyPress and learning how to create new profile fields/groups, I noticed the base group (which I know is required by WordPress) has FirstName (required), then Short description, LastName, Long description. I can’t delete the long and short description fields. I even tried changing the field types and names, but it only adds the new fields, and still shows short and long description fields. I delete them, but they pop right back up. Why are they there and why can’t I delete them? Users won’t understand why they are entering their name, then “Short Description”, etc. Please help! It’s the only issue keeping me from launching my site. I’ve scoured the web, but it doesn’t seem like anyone else has had this particular issue.
