# Base Theme for Starting Development

 * During the brief period when I was playing around with Drupal, I found a theme
   called Zen that was supposed to be a simple, well documented base theme to be
   used as a starting block for designing a new theme. Is there anything like that
   with WordPress that I should be working with?

 * no. its not. But the answer to your question is still very subjective as one 
   person’s trash is another’s gold.
 * Its best to start with a theme that most closely resembles what you want.

 * I feel that [this](http://elliotjaystocks.com/blog/archive/2008/free-starkers-wordpress-theme/)
   by Elliot Stocks is a must have. It is a completely “naked” theme, complete with
   a css reset, nice file structure, and some extra helpful css components.

 * Thanks! I found a theme called Whiteboard and have been working with it. So far
   so good, but the search form does not seem to be standards compliant…
