Banned from my own Blog

  • Hi All,

When trying to respond comments from my readers, I get the following notice:

“Sorry, you’ve been banned from commenting on this blog.

Either your comment content was found to contain spam, or your IP address (or a subnet of your IP adress) has spammed this blog before.

    Strike count:5″

1: How can I unblock my IP address? I can’t find it on hte admin interface.

2: How can this happen? Is it because I’m at a university behind a proxy?

  • Check that you did not accidentally add a blank line or something that would cause a “catch all” in your blacklist filter.

Thanks Beel, I did find an empty line on my blacklist – no idea how it got there since I haven’t changed it recently. However, I keep on getting the same error message after fixing the blacklist.

Which anti-spam plugin are you using? And, have you contact the developer of the plugin?

    I have:

    Kitten’s Spamminator
    Spam Stopgap

Yeah, that sounds like an error from Kitten’s Spamminator. Unfortunately, Kitten no longer develops or supports her plugins. I recommend that deactivate Spamminator and go with a plugin which functions like it and is still being developed and supported, like either Akismet or Spam Karma.

Also, Stopgap was obsoleted quite some time ago by WP-HashCash. You may want to replace that as well.

Thanks macmanx, I’ll try these new plugins.

    cheers
