• I have been using updraft plus plugin for a while. So far so good until my website is down and have to reinstall it to realise that the license is only by per wordpress installation.

So if my website is down, and i have to reinstall the plugin into wordpress, i have to use another license (I bought 10) for the same website. This is stupid and silly.

If i am a pro developer that knows my way around wordpress like a champ, i wouldnt need this plugin anyway. I would be able to do my own backup and restore without any problems but I am not, that is why i bought this plugin. Great plugin but stupid support team.

    Hi Gilbert,

    I’m sorry you’re not having a great experience, but…

    1) This ‘review’, which is entirely about your issues with the licensing for UpdraftPlus Premium, does not belong here, which is for reviews of the free plugin. A moderator may be along to remove this review later.

    2) The information in it is false in relation to the premium version; if you are activating the plugin on the same URL as it has been previously activated on, then it will re-use the same licence. You know this, because I have already stated it to you in private support. I have also explained to you in private support that when you have two separate installs of a site, then this does not count as “one site”, and I have pointed out to you that this is clearly stated on the UpdraftPlus Premium product page, where it says that the licensing is per-WordPress install. I have also pointed out to you that we sell a Developer licence which allows for unlimited installs, for only $40 above the price of the 10-site licence which you bought, and this would be far better than continuing to abuse me by email.

    3) Also please note that the Premium terms and conditions do say “Finally, we reserve the right to, without notice or refund, terminate any ongoing services (including support agreements or update feeds) to customers who abuse our facilities or staff”. I have been very reasonable with you in explaining the licensing, and your decision to be abusive and slam us as “stupid support team” and post this untrue review is really not a great way to go about things.

    Best wishes,
    David

Nothing was said that if the plugin is activated on the same URL I will be reusing the same licence before i made my activation or installation.

It was only said when i raise a support request for it and by the time it is already too late.

My website is simply reinstall into a subfolder instead of the root folder this time run for the same website.

So right now, I was told it has to be the same URL. What is the use of support, when you can even unactivated the one URL i reinstall without my prior understanding it was a mistake.

I am happy to upload our email conversation here for the world to see if I had too.

Sorry, Gilbert, but those are our terms. Abusing staff = end of support.

We could have talked about this and explored the new information you’ve given us, but we’re not prepared to compromise on having our workers called stupid in public whilst an issue is still being worked through (there was only 2 hours in between your filing of the initial support request, and your turning to abuse – I think you’ll find that most WordPress Premium support desks won’t even have replied to you within 2 hours!).

This is the last word I’m going to say about this. I’m sorry it didn’t work out, but we have a zero tolerance policy for abusing staff.

    Best wishes,
    David

This is a far-fetched from the kind of real verbal abusing I could do if I am looking to abuse you.

Note in the interest of full disclosure: I’m an UpdraftPlus user who has upgraded to the commercial version. So there.

    And that’s enough now.

Lightswitchfirm? This whole “review” is not about the free version of the plugin hosted in these forums. As David has pointed out this review is about the fact that you do not like or agree with the terms of David’s commercial product.

That’s fine but that really doesn’t have anything to with the plugin here. The version that is in the WordPress repo here can be used anywhere and as often as you want and where you want.

The commercial version is a service too (support and updates) and that has terms and conditions. It also doesn’t have anything to do with here.

If you want to review the plugin here then please do.

If you want to discuss the transition from free plugin user to commercial product, hey go right ahead. That’s legitimate too to a point. The plugin page puts that there so it’s fine for discussion.

But if you want to complain about the terms of a service for a commercial plugin that is not here then please take it somewhere else. You’ve already made you point and more name calling is not necessary.
