  • Can I ask what the criteria is for a plug in to be made available via WordPress.org? I have purchased Wow Slider and after some initial success I quickly noticed there were various bugs. I have emailed the developers a number of times and new versions are being released on an almost daily basis.

A recent email seeking assistance reads as follows:

    Hi Keith,

Unfortunately, WOWslider really has problems with WordPress. We’ve sent your request to our developer team. They’ll try to fix the problem in the next version.

    Thank you,

Yet this plug in is still advertised and downloadable from this site.

I appreciate there must be 1000’s of plug in out there but I just find it odd that one’s that don’t work can still be purchased.

At the time od the submission, we check that the plugin works and it’s not violating guidelines.

If it breaks later on and they don’t care to update, we generally do nothing.

    The problem here is this:

    can still be purchased

WordPress.org doesn’t sell plugins. You can’t purchase or pay for anything on here. What you’ve done is purchase a commercial plugin from a 3rd party vendor that isn’t affiliated in any way with WordPress. In that case it’s 100% their responsibility to sort out compatibility, support, etc. And the authors/vendors don’t have to pass any checks, apart from their own.

It does suck, but that’s why most people on here always recommend using one of the supported plugins that are available in the respoitory on this site. They have been through the correct verification processes and have a good deal more chance of working correctly.

Unfortunately that’s the risk that you take with commercial vendors. Having said that, most of them are really grat and do support their products. It looks like you’ve just had osme bad experiences.
