  • Hey all – I was wondering really quick – does anyone know how to contact the author of Bad Behavior? I have an issue with Bad Behavior catching a legitimate commenter, but the email address the error says to contact is me, and the “fix it yourself” stuff has been done and has no effect. I tried emailing the commonly known email address (with the database log and technical support key), but it bounces, saying “no such address”. I need a little bit o’ help figuring out what to do next. I already looked all over the site, and the only email address on the BB site is the one that keeps bouncing me – so either he knew I was coming and wanted to avoid me, or it’s an old address he doesn’t use anymore.

Any ideas would be appreciated 🙂

I don’t have a contact information for the guy, but, what was the denied_reason in the log entries?

    See http://www.bad-behavior.ioerror.us/2005/09/30/what-to-do-when-bad-behavior-blocks-you-or-your-friends/ for more info.

I killed the address because it was receiving much too much spam. We’re talking hundreds a day, and that’s AFTER SpamAssassin was done blocking stuff.

You can stick a period in between the bad and the bots, and it’ll get to me.

Do what I do: Run the incoming mail through gmail. It’s excellent at filtering the spam out. Dunno what their trick is.

You’ll may have an issue with responding though as GMail is stripping the original IP address of the sender which protects those using the service for spam. There’s a few hosts who block on that.

Wow – thanks all – I’ll look at that link you posted Otto – before I bug you on things Michael… I like to try to do everything I can before irritating others 😉 But thanks!

    drmike,

The reason it appears that Gmail is stripping the IP address is because you are viewing it as Standard View.

Scroll to the bottom of Gmail and change the view to Basic HTML, then open the email. You’ll be able to view all the info that is missing from the standard view.

BTW if you receive a phish email and want to send it the security people at the site being phished, the be sure to use the HTML view and copy the header information.
