In settings >> show expert setting can you check if the option to “Delete local backups” is checked?
If it is can you uncheck it and save your settings?

i unchecked and now one backup stays in the folder.
but i would like to have older backups deleted automatically. otherwise the server will overflow soon…
Hi,
Unfortunately, the older backups will not be deleted unless you delete them manually. To stop new backups accumulating, just set up a retention limit in the settings tab. I would always advise, at a minimum to have three backups. Ideally you want more than this as if you have a virus you may have to go further back to find a restore point that is not infected.

Hi,
Just keep that object unchecked and set your retention limit to 5 for the files and DB in the settings tab.
The retention limit will apply to both local backups and the backups on the remote storage.

hi @vupdraft
thanks again for your explanation!
but actually i am still confused.
i have over a dozen websites and i used to check that object. and always only the max number (retention limit) of backups are being kept on the local!! server.
now you say that if i uncheck it the same thing happens.
i also must say that the help text in the plugin is not very clear (to me):
>>Check this to delete any superfluous backup files from your server after the backup run finishes (i.e. Whilst this option is unchecked, files sent to remote storage will also remain stored locally, and no locally stored files will be deleted in response to any retention rules).<<
thanks again for clarifying! kai
If you want the backups stored on your server, leave this unchecked.
If you want the backups removed from the server check it.
It looks like you want the backups on your server, so you would leave it unchecked.

thanks @vupdraft !
i want the same number of backups (eg 5) on the local server and the remote server.
how?
it is important that the superfluous backups on the local server are being deleted. otherwise the server will overflow quickly.
thanks! kai

If you remove all your backups now and set your retention limit to 5 and keep the option to “delete local backups unchecked. You should have 5 backups in both your remote storage and locally

thanks for making it clear!
the confusion comes from the settings explanation for me.
if i uncheck the “delete local backups” option then for me it is clear that local backups will never be deleted and the server space would be exceeded quickly.
maybe the further explanation with the plugin is difficult for non english speakers to understand >> (and no locally stored files will be deleted in response to any retention rules).
best wishes, kai

hi @vupdraft
i just checked another of my websites and there the option is checked and there are 8 copies on the local server! this is how i used to set it up and it works for me. but with this website i do not use the remote server. does updraft behave different in this case?
the whole thing started when the local backups where gone with a few websites.
i am still confused. sorry.
Can you post some logs from the affected sites using a tool such as pastebin.com?
