The 517.34MB backup was done 4 weeks ago, and the site has grown over the past year about 20M/month. This time, I cut out all the images that were default, so I am scratching my head.

Drag and drop the backup here: https://traktor.servmask.com and see what is taking the space. Usually, it is cache and/or debug log files. Backups from other plugins could also be the cause.
You can extract the archive with https://traktor.wp-migration.com
I looked in my wp_content, and if it is true that all-in-one-migration copies everything in there, it is getting all my previous backups. Is this a bug in the newest version? It never did this before! I don’t see any option to exclude previous backups, but surely you wouldn’t backup other backups, would you?

The backup does not include wp-content/ai1wm-backups folder.
You should extract your backup or preview it using the methods I described above.
Ah! So I found the issue, that I tried another migration plugin to see if I liked it, and it left the backups in a different folder. These several backups were being rolled into the All in One Migration backup. I deleted them, and the result is only 465MB, which, after my purge of images, is what I expected. Thank you so much for your advice and information!
