Although most servers backup database and the files on a regular basis, is it a good idea to back up our sites using a plugin everyday?

I have researched backup plugins and found "BackUpWordPress" and I am wondering if it is a good option to use for backing up a wordpress site. It backups the site everyday and keeps up to 10 backups and puts them in wp-content folder. The size of the folder might reach to 10MB over time. Can this cause a problem in a long run?

Also, if you know of any better back up plugin, please let us know.
Thanks for your help and knowledge :)

  2. Better to backup off your server. There are a lot of plugins, and many cost a little money, but that's really not a bad thing.

Some FTP clients allow command-line, so you can use these along with a scheduler to download backups on a regular basis.

Depending on exact specifics, I'd recommend either:
    Free - BackWPUp
    Paid - BackUpBuddy

Thanks so much for all advices.

Lee, do you know how often the BackWPUp backups? And where it stores them. I didn't find any info about that.

Hi Helen - It backsup as much and to where you want.
You just set up the cron job within the plugin itself.
