Following is the warning. * WARNING: Your wp-content directory is NOT writable! We can not create the backup directory. /home/virtual/site45/fst/var/www/html/wp-content/backup-0c664/ * WARNING: Your backup directory is NOT writable! It needs to create a backup directory in your wp-content folder, and then add things to that directory. * You need to change the CHMOD settings for that folder. You can do that with your FTP program, just google around for how to do it. The problems remains even after the latest upgrade (2.1). I figure it must be something withe the permission given by the webspace admin. I got the same error message, so I tried to apply advice from above. Using WS_FTP, I accessed my remote WordPress folder, right-clicked on the “wp-content” folder and chose “CHMOD” in the context menu. There I clicked the “write” option for “Group” and “Other”, then clicked “OK”. When I returned to the other browser tab, where I had the WP-admin panel open, it said “page no longer valid”, so I logged into my wp-admin again … but there was no “backup” button any more – and – far worse – when I click on “view site”, I get a blank, white page! My blog seems to have gone. Luckily, when I click on “manage – posts” the posts still seem to be there. But nothing is shown at the blog address. What can I do? The backup works fine on all others. “WARNING: Your wp-content directory is NOT writable! We can not create the backup directory.” when entering backup * I temporarily changed the file permissions for wp_content and all subfolders to 777 – the error messagewas gone, but when I actually tried to backup the selected items, I got “Creating backup file… Could not open the backup file for writing!”. Gave up for now – and changed permissions back.
