    Hello, i am trying to upload a local installation to tastewp. It should use a temporary url from tastewp. i can create the backup, upload and also restore. But after that it doesn’t show my migrated page but the one from tastewp. All pages are missing and not all locally used plugins are migrated. for example astra is missing. Users and snippets are also not restored. When i look in the log of the restore, it says that there is no database. but in the .zip file there is one.

    i could make some more tries but without success. Here are 2 more logs. In it you can see that the database was also unloaded. During recovery no database is found

    The recovery proceeds without errors. When I then call the restored page for the first time, WordPress starts with the famous 5 sec. installation. My restored page is then completely empty. No pages were restored, only some plugins. This is strange, this is not the first time I do this and so far it has always worked.

    Above attempts of restoration, including your debug code, doesn’t contain database. Which is required to create perfect clone of website.

    Simply, make sure database is checked on your localhost website and create new backup with database.

    Unfortunately your answer is not helpful. I had uploaded 2 logs. The first log is from the creation, the second one from the attempted backup. In the first you can see that the database was also backed up.

    I uploaded the backup and tried to restore it. Unfortunately it did not work again.

    To examine the backup, you need the login details. If you need them, I can also send them over a secure connection. At tastewp the page disappeared after 7 days, because I have an account. Then the login data also disappeared after 7 days.

    On the page as it is now, only rudimentary things can be seen. Default wordpress starter page. Nothing can be seen from my page. The name would be ENergietankstelle, as plugins there would have to be at least Elementor, Astra and Astra pro.

    Thank you for that, I tested and found what was causing the issue.

    Overall, we added redundant solution for such cases, but since first release of our plugin it’s first time when I could see such issue on my own.

    It was not intuitive what could go wrong, but there were two main factors that created the issue.

    Factor 1:
    Your Windows machine runs on non case sensitive table naming, which means even if your table prefix in wp-config.php is wpEN_ real table name is wpen_, which creates conflicts after restoration as some WP core options uses table prefix for naming, e.g. user privileges. In such case after restoration if our plugin will use prefix from wp-config.php it will request you to setup new WP installation as there are no tables with wpEN_ prefix. If our plugin will use detected prefix which is wpen_ then after logging in you won’t be able to log into your website as administrator. We decided to use detected prefix in such cases and remove administrator account which can be fixed manually in phpMyAdmin, keeping restored website visible to the user.

    Factor 1, explanation of your case:
    Windows machines by default turns all table names in database to lower-case, so they’re not case sensitive, which does not create an issue on your local machine, but any unix (linux) servers i.e. almost all hosting providers by default uses case sensitive database in terms of table name.
    You should be able to restore your backup on Windows machine, but not on Linux.

    Factor 2:
    This is something I never seen in my life actually, as it turns out that structure of ZIP was created individually for Windows, which may mean you have some strange ZipArchive extension installed on your local machine. I would expect it to be more common issue otherwise, but also it’s first time ever. The problem here is that file names in ZIP are stored in something we can call description of files. It’s binary place where all details are stored such as file size, file name, file path. Windows uses backslash but it’s not a problem in most cases as during Zip creation it replaces back slashes with proper slashes that are also supported by Windows these days. In your case back slashes were not replaced which means on linux system, which uses normal slashes it turned into filename instead of path.

    Factor 2, explanation of your case:
    E.g. you had database files in db_tables directory:
    db_tables
    -> table1.sql
    -> table2.sql
    etc..
    But due to the issue, there was no directory named db_tables, instead there were files named like:
    “db_tables\table1.sql” <- backslash was part of filename
    “db_tables\table2.sql”
    etc…

    Summary:
    We would rather not modify anything in our plugin, but more redundant stuff allows to resolve unexpected issues in future, that’s why at the end we decided to include some solution.

    Alternate and proper solution in your case:
    Best thing you could do it to not create table prefix with upper case letters, that would resolve all issues in terms of restoration, in case of factor 2, we included solution into new beta that will detect such case and react properly fixing extracted files.

    In any case, you need to either replace you table prefixes in wp-config.php on your local machines as these sites are not properly configured right now to work on linux servers, or either adjust your MySQL configuration to use case sensitive table naming.     Otherwise, backups created on your local machine will require manual actions after restoration to complete the process.

    thanks for your great explanation and help.

    The page at TasteWP now looks exactly as it should and owners can now take a good look at it before publishing.

    Regarding your explanations:

    Factor 2 is very unlikely. Actually, I only use 7-zip in the current 64-bit version. But I don’t know if the zip built in into windows still plays into that.

    Factor 1 is true. I chose the table name that way because it is the first two letters of the owner “ENergietankstelle” without thinking about it. I have now added in my.ini “lower_case_table_names=1”. Changing the $table_prefix = ‘wpEN_’ to ‘wpen’ in wp-config.php was not successful. After that I could not login as admin anymore.

    I downloaded the new module from the beta site and installed it. But because the page is now fixed by you, I have not uploaded a new file yet. I will try it when the owner told me changes.

    When you change the the prefix from wpEN to wpen on your local, it should be enough to replace option names in wpen_usermeta and wpen_options. Just search for names LIKE “wpEN%” and replace them to “wpen” it will resolve administrator permissions issues, not sure why WordPress did it this way, but I believe they also didn’t predict such case.

    Alternatively, you can try to use lower_case_table_names=0 which should use case-sensitive tables, resolving all issues as well, new backups should be valid as well (with latest beta version I provided).

    Hi @iclyde,
    I followed your suggestion and changed the option names in wpen_usermeta and wpen_options to prefix “wpen_”. Also $table_prefix = ‘wpen_’ in wp-config.php. after that my local installation works fine again. I hope to have solved all problems with this. I may have to upload the page again if the owner wants changes before replacing the real page.
