Support » Fixing WordPress » Backslashes appearing next to quotations

  • I updated to the 1.2 version of WordPress and suddenly, all of my comments that have quotations (double and single) are now showing up with backslashes.
What is going on and what can I do to rectify this situation
Thanks for your responses in advance.

  • Cna you post a link for an example of what is happening?

In the comments section, it’s like this

And so he couldn\’t take it and now he\’s made up the fraud stuff to make her look bad, because he can\’t look bad,

It only appears in the comments and not in the original post. Wierd. I knew some programming languages required this to be placed in their scripts to make words appear normal but I do not know PHP well enough to understand why it’s doing this.

PHP has to escape certain characters (in this case the apostorphe) so it doesn’t break code. The code needs to be cleaned with stripslashes() before it outputted, but I’m fairly new to WordPress so I can’t say exactly where to put it.
