I have the BackWPup version 3.06. And have set up a WP Network site using wordpress version 3.5.1.

I’m using WP Backup as Super Admin. I created a job, set all the settings. Now when I click “Run now” I get the following errors and the job does not start.

Temp folder *** does not exist and cannot be created. Please create it and set proper write permissions.

Logs folder *** does not exist and cannot be created. Please create it and set proper write permissions.

Backups folder *** does not exist and cannot be created. Please create it and set proper write permissions.

The permissions of my ‘uploads’ folder is set to 755. I know if I set the permissions to 775 or 777, this error would go away. But I really do not want to open these directories like this for the public to write to.

Please also note that I already have around 60+MB of content inside the uploads directory which was uploaded through wordpress while creating posts and pages. My network sites are running all good for the past few months.

Can anyone please assist how to get through this problem without changing file permissions manually…

    Hi Nadir,

Once BackWPup has created its directories, you can set permissions for uploads back to 755. You can also determine a different path for the log file directory in BackWPup->Settings->Log.

    Does this solve the issue?

    Hey Caspar,

Yes. The issue seems to be resolved for now. Thanks! 🙂

I did set a custom location for logs and backups folders, but I couldn’t find a place to set a temp location. There seemed to be a set of random alphanumeric values in the temp folder location. backwpup-ac242-temp

Does the plugin delete the temp directory after some time and create new ones along the way using random file names or just use the same every time? If so then this solution might not work for long time… as one might not be able to go and change the directory permissions manually before each backup.

Hi Nadir, glad it works. The random alphanumeric string is a secret key generated on plugin activation. The temp directory should stay the same as long as you don’t deactivate BackWPup. If you do, you’ll need to manually recreate the temp directory once again.

    Thanks for using BackWPup!
