    Within the CSS I load a background image:

    background-image:url('https://

    This will be loaded as jpg. Is there any chance to get WebP Express working for this?

    Why should this the theme responsibility?

    a) Background images take place verywhere, also – like in my case – in a content teaser
    b) WebP Express is for replacing all images with a webp version. If it is not replacing all, the plugin does not male sense.

    I agree! I hope the project scope will be widened to include the new AVIF format.
