Background image hidden behind background color

    I’m using twentysixteen.

    In Appearance->Customize, I’ve set a background color as well as a background image.
    The problem is that the background image appears “behind” the background color, I can see part of the background image on the side of the screen if I choose to align the background image left or right.

    In other words, how can I have the background image appear on top of the background color?
