  • I have a site I’ve been testing on my machine that I’m hoping to soon put on the web once it’s looking right. However, I’ve come across an annoying issue: I have a WordPress template that I’ve been editing to suit my needs but it has a #wrapper id which I’m trying to make a different color than the body. For some reason, though, any changes I make to the wrapper color only work on IE. The only way I can see the color change is if I add a height to the #wrapper but I need for it to be auto since obviously the page will be different heights depending on the amount of page content/posts. I really need help with this – if whoever sees this needs to see any of my code, please let me know.

  • The most likely reason is that IE is (incorrectly) expanding the wrapper to cover the content, whereas Fx does not. This is probably because the inner content is floated (giving the wrapper a height of 0). To solve it, either stop the content from floating (though this may break other things) or clear something that is inside but at the bottom of the wrapper.

    However, I may well be wrong about this – would be easier to diagnose with a link to the offending template.

    to clear, try this on your footer template, right before the end wrapper:

    <div style=”clear:both;”></div>

    also, make sure your color has # in front of it: background-color:#ccc;

    Good God, it worked. Thanks, man…
