 * Hi
 * Was wondering about the best way to back up a site.
 * I was doing a very small job on a clients site today and I guess however small
   the job the site should be backed up first, correct?
 * Wanted to use cpanel but this site was with 123 and they don’t give a cpanel.
 * I use back up plugins on my own sites but this also failed maybe dues to a file
   size limit with the host.
 * So I guess the only other way is with an ftp client.
 * What do other folks here use when working on small jobs on clients sites.
 * Many Thanks

 * We have big document on that at [https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups](https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups)
 * Downloading the files via FTP is one way, but that won’t get you the database(
   which has your content, settings, etc). There are a few methods for that specifically
   covered at [https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups#Database_Backup_Instructions](https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups#Database_Backup_Instructions)
 * Finally, if a particular backup plugin isn’t working for you, I recommend reaching
   out to the support for that plugin to see if their developers or support community
   have any recommendations.

 * You need to back up the database. The host hopefully has a way to do that. And
   your wp-content/uploads. Everything else like wp-config.php can be fixed if you
   go down. Myself, I keep a copy of all the files on my local device.

 * Thanks Guys!
 * I did as a precaution use the export feature inside the admin area.
 * What is the term for this? I guess it just backs up pages and posts?
 * Would having this file help in anyway if things went wrong!
 * All my sites have cpanel so it’s easy but some of the clients sites don’t.
 * Thanks Again.

 * That export will contain the posts, pages, and comments, but not the settings
   or the catalogue/index portion of the media library.
 * It’s primarily for moving content elsewhere, not backing it up.
