Support » Plugin: UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin » Back up freezes at 44% every time

  • Hello,

    I was using your plugin without any issues on bluehost.

    I recently switched hosting company to siteground and yesterday and today I tried to do a manual backup via my WordPress dashboard and it stays stuck at 44% everytime

    Hi,

    Please could you send us a copy of the latest backup log?

    The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin, and post the link here

    Thank you for your reply. Here is the copy of the latest backup log.

    Hi,

    That log is of a backup only begun a few minutes earlier and has not yet been abandoned. Please can you download it afresh after at least half an hour?

    David

    Thank you for the quick reply.

    Here is a log from a few days ago…

    Hi,

    It shows that the backup process is timed out or killed off.

    Could you try to reduce the backup archive split size. This will split the backup into smaller, more manageable files.

    To do this, open the ‘expert settings’ section of the UpdraftPlus Settings tab, and find the ‘split backups every’ option. Set this to 25Mb save your settings and run a new process.

    If the issue persists, please ask your hosts/server admin to investigate their PHP error logs. These logs should contain more information on the exact issue that is causing the backup process to halt.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your reply. I have tried as you suggested and saved it to 25MB and tried the process again. I now became stuck at 25%. I contact my hosting company which is Siteground and I asked them to check the PHP logs and they have shared this with me. Thank you again for your help. I love your plugin and I am so grateful I found it and I hope to get it working again soon.

    Yes I checked your error log on the servers and I see couple of errors related to the plugin, you may want to provide them to the UpDraft supporters

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

    The errors that were highlighted by your hosts are not fatal, and would not stop the backup.
    (Although, you can prevent those errors by adding the following line to your wp-config.php file:
    define('UPDRAFTPLUS_SKIP_CPANEL_QUOTA_CHECK', true);
    )

    From the log, it appears that the backup is timed out (which is expected), but is not resumed as it should be.
    This indicates that there may be an issue with the WordPress scheduler.

    To confirm this, please could you install the free ‘WP Crontrol’ plugin, then go to WP-Admin->Tools->Cron Events?
    Do you see any errors or warning messages on that page?

    @rsanmiguel023 Unfortunately your screenshots crop the part we wanted to see; the times when actions are next scheduled for.

    Hi,

    Apologies if we were not able to get back to you.

    There are no error from the log but it appears to have halted. This usually happens when your server runs out of resources.

    I would suggest that you ask your host/server admin to increase your server resources. Also, upgrade your PHP to PHP version 7 to help improve the backup performance.

    Regards,
    Bryle
