I’ve been using WordPress few years, and it wasn’t until just recently that I’ve found a theme that feels right for me. There’s just one problem. The theme doesn’t have a widget-friendly sidebar.
Now, I’ve learned some really beginner-level coding through these years, but this one is out of my league. I’m looking for some tips, tutorials, help on how to build/integrate a sidebar to my theme.
I’ve read some basic tutorials & articles for widgetizing a theme that were created when the widgets first hit the WordPress themes. I’ve tried to apply techniques these articles presented, but with not any results. All I can do is really mess up my theme.
I’ve created a sidebar.php, page.php, single.php functions.php and called the sidebar in the right place in index.php. I’ve also made required modifications to style.css. I can get the sidebar appear in the theme but, it’s always in the wrong place; either after the content (post) or right beside the content, when it should be at side of the page, that is what a sidebar means.
If I could find out what specific files I’ll need to create and what kind code I need to insert in to a stylesheet, case would be closed! So that’s the ideal situation.
If you have any information or suggestions how to create a sidebar to my theme, please share your information.
