Support » Plugin: Gutenberg » Awful and unfortunately mandatory

  • I lived without Gutenberg until 5.0 WP release.

It’s the worst user experience ever.

Yes, it’s “minimalist”, “lifted”, but it’s not user friendly at all.

The block type is awful to use, we’re not in page builder here.

Plus, a lot of features of the old editor are missing, it takes MORE time to do simple stuff like swiching between text and code mode.

In one word, one star, but If I could have I would have set 0 stars.

  • Thanks for writing in with feedback.

You might like Fullscreen Mode which you can switch to from the More menu at the very top right. If possible, give it a try!

There’s a keyboard shortcut for switching between the visual and html editors which is Cmd+Opt+Shift+M or Ctrl+Alt+Shift+M.

Thanks for your answer @designsimply but it’s more complicated than anything, plus this minimalist approach doesn’t fit at all with the usage of a writting interface…

WP was good for its flexibility so the old editor should been available if we don’t like gutenberg; hopefully a plugin to do that exists but still, it’s a very disturbing and non-userfriendly experience 😐

Gutenberg has a few different modes, some more minimal than others—though the default is the less minimal option. Still, many people have made the opposite argument: that it’s not minimal enough.

There is absolutely a plugin available. It’s called Classic Editor and you can find it by searching from your Plugins page.

If you’d like to talk in a little more detail about writing interface usage specifics, if be keen to hear some specific examples.
