I’ve used XAMPP to set up a development desktop and am following the instructions for “Using phpMyAdmin” at http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions:

    1. There’s a warning at bottom saying there ought to be a password for “root” but offers no means to create one. Anyone know how?

    2. I “Create a Database” (wrpd1), but (a) there is no dropdown for the instruction “Be sure ‘Use text field’ is selected from the dropdown” and (b) no prompt for a database password (if that is recommended).

    3. I select “wrpd1”, go to “Privileges” per instruction. Under “Users having access to ‘wrdp1′” it lists:
    User Host Type Privileges Grant
root localhost global ALL PRIVILEGES Yes
So maybe all is well? Or should an added user be set up for WordPress? I ask because the instructions are out of synch with whatever version XAMPP downloaded (they relate to phpMyAdmin 2.6.0) and because the message board seems to have many with database hookup problems, so I don’t want to proceed further without assurances.

    Thanks for assistance.
