Support » Plugin: Health Check & Troubleshooting » AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

  • If you install this plugin, it will disable all other plugins and themes and will render your website useless. Even after you somehow manage to delete this plugin from the WordPress folder and you think you got rid of it, it will not undo its actions and your website will remain unusable. Be sure to have a backup of your previous version ready and restore it.

This plugin not only is completely useless in terms of functionality, but it should be removed from the WordPress repository because of the damage it does do a live installation.

  • Ok, well this more than likely explains why my site is no longer accessible.

Wish I learned sooner than later.

I’m sorry to hear you had a bad experience here, but Id like to take a moment to go through what happened and why this happened for you.

One of the features of the plugin is Troubleshooting Mode, this lets you test for conflicts between plugins and themes by simulating, for your currently logged in user alone, that your site has no plugins enabled and you are using a default theme (Twenty Seventeen or similar).
You can leave this mode either by logging out and back in, or by using the Troubleshooting menu in the admin bar up top.

Why didn’t it get “fixed” by deleting the health-check folder, because of how we need to ensure nothing loads before some of our features, a file is added to the wp-content/mu-plugins/ directory that is automatically loaded by WordPress, this file also need to be removed if you’ve manually removed anything from the plugin.

I’d like to ask how you entered troubleshooting mode, did you go via the Health Check menu, or did you use the “shortcut” by clicking Troubleshoot next to the name of an existing plugin in the list of installed plugins? We’ve seen a few users get confused by this behavior and are looking to improve the behavior on this screen in particular with our next release.

My trouble started with activation. I was working from my Motorola Moto Z(2) Force Edition, in the Chrome browser. The pop-up immediately appearing on plugin activation was too tall for my phone and was impossible to scroll by any trick I thought of. I logged out, flushed my browser cache, attempted to log back in and found my site inaccessible. I had no choice but to delete the hosting instance and reinstall WordPress.

@rhomani I’d liek to ask you to either make your own review, or a support topic on the forums, I just don’t want to get mixed up your input with the one that wrote this review, please, it’s better for picking up what we need to look at if it’s not confused between two different experiences 🙂 (I have taken note though, the warning should be dismissable on mobile so we’ll look into that)
