Support » Plugin: Wordfence Security - Firewall, Malware Scan, and Login Security » Avoid! Breaks site after uninstall/deletion

I just deactivated your plugin, deleting all tables and data as it allows, then deleted your app from plugins. Then when going to upload a new plugin and work on my site your plugin somehow is still blocking me access after full deletion.

    Horrible plugin.

Thanks for your thoughts about Wordfence.

I didn’t see a forum post asking for help so it’s difficult to determine what happened. Did the blocked action ask you if you wanted to allow the action? If not, what message did you see?

Usually when you delete a plugin it is no longer able to function at all, so wf (in this scenario) wouldn’t block anything. There are possibilities that might have happened, assuming the block was from Wordfence.
    1. The site you were blocked on was in a subfolder of another site with Wordfence’s Firewall on it. In this case you’d need to add a .user.ini file inside the subdirectory’s install folder that tells the firewall not to run in this WordPress directory. To see if you are using .user.ini like most people(look in the root directory of your site for this), add a line to the directory’s (this is the folder you want to turn the firewall off for) .user.ini file (or create that file):
    auto_prepend_file = none

    If using .htaccess on PHP5:
    php_value auto_prepend_file none

    If using .htaccess on PHP7:
    php_value auto_prepend_file none

    2. If you cannot remove Wordfence’s optimization by the method above, some files may have incorrect permissions, or you may have previously setup Wordfence’s optimization manually. You can remove Wordfence’s optimization manually, in this case. Look for Remove the Optimization manually on this page:
    https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/optimizing-the-firewall/#removing-the-optimization

    3. Your site’s caching is aggressively caching things it shouldn’t. This would be caching on the server level, not the website level. Flushing any and all cache may help.

If you have further issues make a forum post and post a link to a screenshot of the blocking message you see, as well as a link to this review so we know what you tried already.

It was your plugin as it was your logo and name on the screen blocking the plugin upload.

I know after deletion the plugin shouldn’t work – and that’s my exact issue. I used your plugin to delete it’s tables and data and then deactivated and removed from plugins.

No it wasn’t a subfolder. There was no manual setup and wasn’t a cache issue – wp-admin is not cached!

Maybe a problem with your plugin rather than the user!?

Sorry, but I outlined the situations where it might be there AFTER you completely removed it. It’s just not possible for something that is completely not there to do anything. Again, if you want to open an actual forum post we’d be happy to help. Forum rules prevent us from doing support in the review section.
