• Hello

This is a great plugin and working really well for my client on their site.

I do have one small issue though which is that as far as I can see there are only 2 options for access levels – only full administrators or all users.

Is there nothing in between or no way of having it so that say admins and editors can use this and nobody else?

We have made a recent mod to the site which means that we now have contributors. These are low level users who do login to the site to post. They should not have access to edit related posts so I have had to change your plugin to admins only.

However this means I have had to make my clients admins – never a good idea as I’m sure most people will agree.

I don’t want my clients updating plugins and messing around with themes.

The ideal solution would be a mod to your plugin that sets say a minimal level or checkbox choosing which levels of users have access.

Failing that if there is a small customisation I could make so that admins and editors can use it when I tick the admins box…

Or any other suggestion how to achieve this.

    Thanks very much

    Joel

  • Hey Joel,

thanks for reaching out! We are not planning to make any changes to those settings, sorry to say, but I guess you can modify init.php file in a way that would suit you. You can change this line for example:
    https://github.com/Zemanta/wp-related-posts-wp-plugin/blob/master/wordpress-23-related-posts-plugin/init.php#L506

with any of these options: http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities#Capabilities

Hope this helps, take care and have a nice day,
    Petra

    Thanks Petra.

I would want to allow say Administrators and Editors to be able to use your plugin. Are you able to help me with what the line of code should change to please?

Also is there any way of making the mod in my theme’s functions file so that I don’t lose it if you update your plugin?

I dont mind making a donation for your time?

    Thanks very much.

    Joel

    Hey,

thanks for getting back to me! No need for a donation, I will take a look what can be done to make it for work for Editors and Admins only and get back to you ASAP.

    Best,
    Petra

    Hi Petra

    That sounds great thank you.

Being able to allow editing for a second level of user would be perfect.

Then I can use something like user role editor to restrict their permissions so at least can keep my clients away from stuff they might break or I don’t want them to see!

    Thanks very much.

    Hi Petra

I hope you are well. Were you able to find a way to set the plugin so that it can be restricted to admins and editors please?

Apolgies if you alreday did this in the last round of updates. I had a look but can’t see if this has changed.

    Thanks very much.

    Joel

    Hey Joel,

I know it doesn’t feel like it but I haven’t forgotten about you. But we are being swarmed with work on our side, so I haven’t been able to take a closer look at the code. At first I actually thought this will be a piece of cake but it seems it will be a bit difficult to adjust it, so that’s why it is taking so much time – really sorry! Next week I still need to do a couple of things but the week after that, I am all about adjusting the code.

Once again, sorry for the delay, take care and have a lovely day,
    Petra

    Hi Petra

Hope all is well – I’m sure super busy as always.

Do you think you will be able to look at this mod please at any point to allow editors to have access ro your plugin too without having to give access to all users?

    Thanks very much

    Joel

    Hey Joel,

thanks, all is well but yes, insanely busy.
I am looking at this as we “speak”. If I can make/create anything useful by tomorrow, I will send you the modified plugin. Keep your fingers crossed 🙂

Take care and have an amazing day,
    Petra
