    Hi,

Is there a way to have CF7 automatically capture the IP address of the user submitting the form and include that information in the received mail? I looked for an option but can’t seem to find one.

Someone has started sending me harassing/threatening messages via the CF7 forms on my website. For the messages already received I have asked my webhost to look into it but for anything that might arrive in the future it would help to have the information already logged, so I can ban the IP as needed and provide it to applicable authorities for investigation.

    Thanks!

    Hi Sakaane

I wouldn’t be too worried about the IP address as thousands of people can be using the same one. Generally the IP address is just the exchange (Telstra, Optus, etc), in particular in Australia. (Not too sure about other countries).

My suggestion would be to use wordfence for your security. Wordfence has a Live Traffic feature which allows you to see who is visiting your website. You can generally look at the time of the email and compare that with what visitor was in the site at the time. You can then block IP if you wish.

I use CF7 as well and there is no conflict.

Good luck with it all Sakaane

Major thanks! I am not sure why I didn’t come across the special mail tags page before. I was searching all over the site for that information. Maybe I just missed it because I was upset. 🙁

Thank you also Gnomag for your suggestion! I will look into that too.
