• Hi

I’ve just taken over the running of a WordPress site. It was created in 2011 and has not been maintained since, however the plugins and WordPress version are all up to date.

There doesn’t seem to be an auto-update plugin, I don’t think it’s to do with the new features on the latest WordPress release, and I’m pretty sure that no-one is manually updating.

Any ideas on how this is being kept up to date? As I’m a bit baffled!

    Thanks

  • As of WordPress 3.7, minor security updates are carried out automatically. Releases of major version updates will still generate an update notice in the site’s admin area and will still require someone to update the site – either using the 1-click updater or by updating manually.

    Thanks for the info.

The 1-click updater is not installed and I’m pretty sure someone is not updating the site. Is there any other way the major updates could be being done? Through the hosting company? Or through WordPress multisite?

The 1-click updater is not installed

Sorry – perhaps I wasn’t clear. The 1-click updater is part of WordPress itself and has been for some time now.

Is there any other way the major updates could be being done?

No. Major core updates have to be carried out manually and prior to 3.7, all updates has to be carried out manually.

    Through the hosting company?

No idea. You could try asking them.

    Or through WordPress multisite?

    Is this a multisite installation?

Great, thank you. I will explore the possible options.
