 * I have some sites with WP 3.7 and they do not auto update. Actually this is what
   I prefer but I never made any changes to block the updates. I have another site
   with WP 3.8 and I just got an email that it updated. Why would my WP 3.7 sites
   not try to auto update?

 * it won’t skip between 3.7 to 3.8 gaps, it’ll do small updates like 3.7.1 to 3.7.2
   automatically

 * But my Sites that are on 3.7 have not done any updates but my site at 3.8 went
   to 3.8.1

 * Yes, it’ll automatically update 3.8 to 3.8.1, but not 3.7 to 3.8

 * I thought the automatic update feature started with 3.7

 * Automatic updates were introduced in WordPress 3.7, yes. Sorry I’m not sure I
   understand what the issue is

 * Auto-updates are only done between **minor** versions, as Andrew said. So 3.7
   will go to 3.7.1 automatically, but it will **not** go to 3.8 automatically,
   since that’s a **major** version.
 * So for example:
 * YES: 3.7 -> 3.7.1 -> 3.7.2, 3.7.3 etc.
 * NO: 3.7 -> 3.8 -> 3.9 etc.
 * If you want to enable auto-updates for major versions (like 3.7 -> 3.8) you can
   do that, but it’s a little risky for a production machine where you probably
   want to test plugins first:

 * To be clear, your 3.7 sites may have missed the 3.7.1 auto-update period or may
   not be able to auto-update for any one of a number of reasons. To find out whether
   a specific site is capable of auto-updating, you can run this plugin:
