Hey – is there a reason Automatic Update is not available for this plugin? It’s free – what’s the issue exactly?

  • Hi there
I have the same problem and have tried multiple times. The error persists.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hey @tamar, @deniseue!

I’ve run a few tests locally, and didn’t have any issue with the Automattic upgrade, so I’d love to get a bit more information on the error you’re seeing.

Is it that the upgrade isn’t offered when you navigate to Plugins > Installed Plugins? Or is it that the upgrade fails when you click the upgrade link?

@deniseue, you mention that the error persists each time. Could you please share a screenshot of the error notice that you’re seeing and confirm the steps you took before it occurs?

    Cheers!

    Simon.

    Hi Simon
The plugin is there. I just get the error: Update package not available. The links are screenshots:

    Thanks a lot

What Denise said, but on the Plugins page, it says Automatic update is not available for this plugin. I don’t understand why I have to buy it for $0 on the WooCommerce store every time an update is made available. Since you guys took over, it stopped supporting updates via WordPress.

    Hey @tamar / @deniseue!

Thanks for sharing that extra information. I had a chance to check in with the developers on this, as I thought we’d resolved this issue. I’m still not sure why you would only be seeing this with the most recent updates, as when we took over the plugin, the code that caused this should have still been there too.

That said, the developers did confirm they’ve added a fix for this in the most recent release. The problem is that the change to the files would only take effect for the next upgrade. So it would still be possible to see the error you’ve mentioned for the v1.11.0 update!

The quick workaround here would be to install the latest release manually, as you should be able to download the latest release zip file from WordPress.org here: https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/facebook-for-woocommerce.1.11.1.zip

Please be sure to deactivate and delete the existing plugin first, then re-upload the latest zip file. Don’t worry, all your settings are stored in the database for safekeeping, so nothing will be lost!

If you then still see the issue when the next update is available, please do let us know. Could you let me know if there is any immediate issue after manually updating though?

    Cheers!

I’m not sure if we’re on the same page, Simon, since it sounds to me like you’re talking about something else.

I manually updated the plugin already. I will let you know what happens (if I recall) when there’s a new release to the existing plugin because that’s the only way I can tell you if automatic update works or not.

    thanks.

    Hi @tamar,

Perhaps my previous answer was more so for @deniseue, as the error “Update package not available” is what should be fixed once the latest release v1.11.0+ has been installed. The actual update to 1.11.0 could still show this error though, as @deniseue had seen.

That said, I’d be very grateful if you could let me know what happens for your upgrade next time around, as if it’s still not allowing automatic updates, we can gather some more information and I can loop in the developers again to take another look!

Thanks so much for hanging in there and sharing the problem so far.

    Cheers,

    Simon.
