• An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.
This message appeared several weeks ago after I tried to update a plug-in.
There is no file called .maintenance (or similar) and I cannot get rid of the message.
    Has anyone any further ideas?
Just before writing this, I see that vesrion 3.2 is available. Automated update does not work whatever I try, so I will do another manual update.
    Again – any ideas?

  • Have you tried deactivating all plugins and switching to the Twenty Ten theme then upgrading WordPress?

Yes – I have tried all that! I am using Twenty ten any way.
I have also tried all the other suggestions and none work for me.
perhaps there is noting I can do – unless anyone know better????

I have even deactivated every plug in, then removed it via ftp. I then downloaded the latest versions, installed correctly, activated them and they are ALL OK.
    Still the message appears!
probably there is no solution – unless YOU know better?????

Did you actually upgrade to 3.2?

Your FTP Client likely filters out files that do not contain a filename. Try hunting around the settings to find out how to set them to visible.

Alternatively, go to your web hosting control panel and use the built in file management tool to delete ‘.maintenance’

*If you cannot see the .htaccess file (which is always there), you will not be able to see other nameless files.

FTP is set to show all folders and files!!! As I said, I have done all the usual things and also all the previous advice.
I am looking for soomething entirely new that might work.
I will update to 3.2 in due course – this problem is concerning the plug-in only.

I have now updated – manually – to 3.2. This went without a hitch. I have also changed the theme to Twenty-eleven. No problem!
HOWEVER, the notice regarding a failed update (of the plug-in, which was Back Up Word Press, version 1.3.1) is still showing. yet the dashboard says that this version is activated and the backups appear normally.
    I am baffled!

Clearly so is every one else!
    Has noboby any ideas?

    WOWEEEEEE!

I received the notice to update to version 3.2.1 and it did it automatically in under 10 seconds. Not only that, but the annoying nag went away too!

AND the theme and widget automatic updates worked as well.

Someone out there has taken notice – thank you so very much.
