Support » Installing WordPress » Auto upgrade from 2.86 to 2.9 didn’t work

  • Hi there,

    I just did an auto-upgrade from 2.86 to 2.9.
All worked fine but now all i get is a blank screen, can’t log into admin…etc.
I tried to roll back and my external hard drive just broke down. Sure it has nothing to do with the new wordpress upgrade but i desperately need some friendly help here.

    Cheers

  • Rajesh, this is an option

      before

    you upgrade.
As you can read most people use the auto upgrade and then their WP gives a blank screen.

I upgraded to WordPress 2.9 by uploading the WordPress files via FTP and I haven’t got any problem.
I used the automatic updater tool from the WordPress admin page only once, and I saw that it backs up the current installation files and then install the new files.
After that time I had some glitches, not major problems, going on, so I backed up my posts, I deleted all the WordPress files from my server, recreated the database for WordPress and uploaded via FTP the WordPress files.
    I use PHP 4.3.11 with MySQL 5.
Since then I never used the automatic updater any more, and so far every time I upload the newer WordPress files via FTP, my blog works.

Ok I have reloaded 2.9 cleared all cache re entered the admin Still having problems with my Plug-ins, so I disabled all then re-enabled. Working fine sorry for the frustrations. there WordPress is still my Drug of choice.

I had the same problem with the upgrade to 2.9. After the automatic upgrade, I could not add new posts or edit existing ones. (The input text field for entering/editing blog text disappeared.)

After reading SpankedNutz’s post about the Twitter plugin (TwitterTools, which I was using), I removed the plugin and now everything works fine.

I upgraded to 2.9 and now my site has reverted back to a version in January, which means many of my posts are missing and, I have also lost a lot of work I did on several pages.

this has happened on two sites……….a third site that was upgraded seems to be holding
