• I am looking to populate a custom taxonomy called “location”. There are thousands of postal codes so I was wondering:

    1. if you can auto-populate a custom taxonomy with data? e.g. Can you import a list of terms?

    2. do “off-the-shelf” taxonomies exist? it would be great if someone has already made a list of postal codes available, ready to be inserted into an empty taxonomy.

Thanks SwansonPhotos. I haven’t tested the XML schema list element yet but I assume this will help with populating an empty custom taxonomy.

How about my second question? WordPress has code for sale (plugins and themes). Does the WordPress community also make ready-made taxonomies available?

First, all themes and plugins on WordPress.Org are free…many here also have Pro or Commercial versions available.

So, yes, but each Theme and Plugin may use them in many differing ways so you would need to research that…

Also, extensive data such as zip code listings are not easy to make, so many provide a service for this, for example USPS lists some

I see what you mean. It looks as though taxonomy data is out there, it just may come at a cost. That isn’t a problem for me, I do have a small budget. I’ll take a look. Thanks for the info.
