Support » Plugins » Auto-insert file upload/attachment

  • I’m wondering if there’s a modification or plugin that I can use so that when files are uploaded, they are automatically inserted into the entry, bypassing the need to click on the thumbnail and select “send to editor?”

  • I have yet to see something like that.

Phooey. We’re using WordPress in a work situation and it seems like lots of people are having problems completing the “send to editor” step. We were hoping to make it work a little more like Lotus Notes (eww) where, when you select an attachment, it just inserts the icon/link wherever your cursor was. Perhaps we ought to create a better tutorial then…thanks.

Having done further investigation, what I’m looking for is something like Gordon Knoppe’s attachfiles plugin which, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to work in 2.0 and he appears to have disappeared. Anyone know of anything similar? (In short, it provides a browse box and simply adds an attachment link at the bottom of a post with a little paper clip icon next to it.)

Barring that, the filosofo old-style upload plugin may suffice for now but I don’t know how to add it to the tinymce (or Editor Monkey) group of icons that display above the post. Any help there?

I am really new to wordpress and having a lot of trouble finding info on uploading file attachements such as PDF and PPS files using the wordpress editor. I have downloaded and turned on the AutoLink Attachment with Descriptions 1.02d plugin. But so far all I can do is drag and drop a file from my desktop to a firefox browser editor. Even then it is just a local link (to my desktop) that is embedded into the page – this is not an attachment.

When I look into my wp-content/upload/2007/01 folder there is no PDF file.

Alledgedly, there is a file upload manager in the editor. Image file upload I see; general attachment file uploads I do not see. Or am I looking right at it and not seeing it?

Some kind person please please help….

go to your site Admin and choose manage, pages, create new page. Notice your browser address window shows that you are now at YourSiteName.com/blog/wp-admin/page-new.php

Skip the first area that says Write Page and scroll down to the Upload area.

Click browse to find the file on your computer that you want to upload and select it (in XP I had to choose “open”. The browse window closes leaving the file field filled in with a URL to the file you just chose.

Fill in the title (which will become a clickable text link to your file).

    Click Upload.

Now click on the name of the file that appears in the upload area- notice the drop down menu which says:
    Linked to File
    Using Title
    Send to Editor
    Delete
    Close Options

Click on Send to Editor – see how the link appears up in the Write Page section.

Give the page a title and click Create Page.

To see the results of your work go to Admin, manage, pages .
