Support » Plugin: TablePress » Auto Import Won’t Import All Tables

I’ve looked through the forums and some of the solutions. I know that the Auto Import and CRON jobs is hard to diagnose. Wondering if you have a list someplace of possible issues? (site must be visited, memory limits, execution time, etc)

I can import my HTML files and CSV manually to create or update tables.
And I can use the auto update. However, recently it has stopped updating ALL tables and stopped displaying the last update date. Admittedly, there are 169 tables and it seems to get through 151 of them. However, I also tried turning off the import on all the tables except those that weren’t updating and they still wouldn’t update just those 10 tables.

I just increased memory limit. The host doesn’t allow me to change max-execution time. I also just downloaded/donated for an updated version (and updated from 1.2 to 1.3). Waiting to see if this has an affect.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

You already mention the most common issues here. In your case, I would guess memory limit, or that one table (the 152nd) causes problems. Can you check if manually importing those last 10 tables works (to be sure that their URL/path works)?

With version 1.3, you should be seeing a few more error details in the last column in the Auto Import configuration. Do those maybe help?

All of the problem tables can be imported/updated manually. I just went through and imported using the URLs of each table to update.

I don’t see any information in the last column in the Auto Import Configuration…there is just a “-” in the last column “Last Auto Import”. It used to show the date.

i deactivated all plugins and tried to increase memory a bit more (768mb) but that doesn’t seem to have helped.

Is this a question for the host?

    Hi,

yes, it would be good to get the host involved here, and ask them to check the server error log files for hints regarding the problem.

I have been in touch with the host (siteground). They initially reported that there were timeout issues showing up and we set up a Real Cron job. However, the issue persisted.

I chatted again with them today…they are no longer showing any issues in the error log related to the cron.

However, I’m still having issues with many tables not updating (even more than before). And I still dont see anything in the “Last Auto Import” column. Does this LOOK for changed data and ONLY update if info is different?

I tried deactivating all plugins except TablePress and the Auto Import plugin to see if i could get anything to change but i didn’t notice any effect. I’ve turned off caching. I’m not sure what else to do. You don’t have your own cron URL for this plugin, right?

    Hi,

having a server cron job is definitely a good thing here.

The Auto Import will in fact import every (configured) table, it will not check/compare for changed data, but import and replace “no matter what”.
Thus, it should show an entry for every (configured) table in that “Last Auto Import” column.

And no, there’s no custom URL for triggering the cron system or anything like that. TablePress integrates into the WordPress Cron system here.

You could maybe try investing this more with plugin like “WP Crontrol” or the Cron Manager component of the “Core Control plugin (there are few more for this purpose, but I only have used these two so far). They show all WordPress cron jobs and allow triggering them as well, which might help in finding more information on this issue. Beyond that, we’d probably have to investigate this more on the code level, I’m afraid.

SO interestingly, as i’ve stated, the “Last Auto Import” column just has a dash (-) even for those that are working properly. Which seems to indicate there might be some other issue. It used to update that column when I saved the configuration.

I will look at other Cron options but if you could investigate further, I’d appreciate it.

    Hi,

If you want, I can take a direct look at this on your site. Could you therefore please get in touch via email (the address is in the main plugin file “tablepress.php”)? I can’t promise a solution though.

    Regards,
    Tobias
