Featured images started disappearing from one of my site.
So, I decided to make a new site (in case there is cancerous script left at the site)
I haven’t been able to make the auto feature image works ever since, except once when I make another site to test and it appears on that site. And I can never repeat it again.

It would look like there is a bug that is preventing Nelio from featuring the images?

What WordPress version and theme are you using?

    WordPress 5.7.2
Theme Genesis Framework + Essence Pro (even Twenty Twenty One is the same)

Tried on 2 server, one works (shared hosting), one doesn’t (VPS)?

Actually, the whole thing has just gone nut.

Now, the archives are working (featured Images appear but not on the frontpage — powered by Genesis Blocks), and worse of all, the “External Featured Image URL” no longer exist on the menu??? (I can’t edit anymore)

Buddy, things seem to be working again?
    Did you do something magical?

I’m glad to know things are working again 🙂 I didn’t do anything at all… so maybe there was an incompatibility issue with another plugin that, once updated, fixed the problem.

Anyhow, you should know that external featured images can be troublesome. Here’s why.

WordPress offers some hooks one can use to switch featured images “on the fly.” That’s what our plugin uses to switch a featured image from a fake placeholder to the external image you set. Unfortunately, themes and plugin developers have a lot of different options to retrieve and display a featured image in the front-end, and some of these options don’t have any hooks for our switching…

In Nelio Content’s settings, you’ll see there’s an option to select how the plugin should set an external featured image in the front-end. We implemented this option to make external featured images compatible with as many themes as possible, but there’s no guarantee it’ll always work.

But, as I said, I’m glad to know you somehow fixed this one 🙂
