Auto-delete a post after a given date ? (27 posts)

I'm looking for a plugin that allows to automatically delete a post after a limit date which is defined in the administration panel, when the post is posted.

I searched it for a long time, but without any success. Does anybody know something like that ?

Working on a plugin for this feature right now, but seeing as I surely don't want to use it I had a question for Lio.

Would you be restricting the deletion of posts to a particular category or all categories? Are there going to be posts that will be there forever? Currently, I'm implementing the plugin to simply delete all plugins that are older than a specific date in all categories.

It will delete all the comments associated with posts as well.

Is this what you would like?

    Regards

Here is the plugin that I spoke of. Please give it a shot and see if it works for you and also if there is anything more specific you want.

What about an "auto-move plugin"? It may be useful for some people to have an "old listings" or something. So instead of deleting the post it would be cool to have a plugin that moved a post after a certain date to another category....just a thought.

Nice idea, that shouldn't be too hard to make. Next version. :)

Yeah I didn't think it would be, I'm just not that far along with programming otherwise I'd make it myself;)

Thank you Cypher for the plugin. I did not try it yet, but it seems to be perfectly what I was looking for.

EncryptDesigns' notice seems to me very relevant : an auto-move plugin would be maybe a good compromise...

Hey any updates Cypher? Moving my posts one by one is fun and all but having it run automatically would be super!

Sorry for not replying back folks, I was out of the country for most of July. I'm back now and working on the plugin again.

Expect something in the next few days.

    Hi Cypher,
Thanks for making this plugin, I am looking for a plugin that will allow me to enter the date (or amount of days) that i want the post to be deleated. I only want this for a few of my posts and not all. For example, I have a section with training events that are obviously on a certain day. After that day passes I want the post to disapear. Is this what this plug in does? Or does it move it to another category - as that isn't a problem for me? I am just a bit reluctant to download the plugin as i am not sure if it will get rid of ALL my posts, which i don't want it to do.
Thanks in advance for your response.

    Sonja1234,

In it's current incarnation this plugin will delete ALL posts that are older than your set date, or move ALL posts into a single category.

Since I'm currently adding the feature to do the moving of posts, I could just as easily add an extra feature to the deleting of posts that allow you to restrict deletion to only a single category.

If that works, lemme know and I'll incorporate it into the next release.

    Regards

I think it would be a good idea to add it anyway, as some people will find it useful, but, unfortunatly it wont be able to do what i want it too. But thanks for your response.

I must once again apologize for my delay, I was just VERY swamped at work after returning from my vacation.

But, I've updated the plugin to add the Move feature. You can now choose to move all your posts into a single category rather than deleting them.

Rather than delay this release to add the "deletion of a single category" feature, here is v0.2. I will get this extra feature in 0.3 soon.

Maybe its just me but the Move doesn't seem to be working. I have the number of days set to 1 and the Destination set to where I want the posts to move too. In my case I want old posts from Upcoming Shows to be moved to Past Shows. The plugin doesn't seem to be doing that for me. Any ideas?

For starters, could you set the number of days to 1 and set the action to preview, can you see that it shows the correct number of posts and their categories.

Once that is all set, we can figure out why it isn't moving posts for you. In my testing I managed to move all my posts from various categories into the "Uncategorized" category without any issues.

Ok I did that and it looks like it shows all the posts. It shows my 3 categories: News, Past Shows and Upcoming Shows. It also shows the Post ID, Post Title, Post Category and No. of Comments.

OK, next step. During the configuration of Move, did you first choose the Move option, hit Update Options, choose your category and hit the second Update Options below?

Once that is done, you should be able to go to any other page and return to this page and find both the Move option set as well as your particular move-to category set as well. If both of these things are set, we will have to dig further.

For the actual move itself, I use standard WP calls.

Yes I set 1 and MOVE. Then I chose where I wanted the posts moved TO, and hit the 2nd update button. I am still not getting anything. Hmmm...

Sorry to resurrect a very old post - but whatever happened to this? Is the plugin still available from someone, and is it still being developed?
