Hi guys, just wondering if you could help me.

I’ve got a gaming website that has been running ads for a while. Previously, I manually placed the ads myself but earned nothing. In October last year I enabled Auto Ads and got a boost in revenue. Unfortunately, since then, I’ve found that Auto Ads only show on AMP pages and on Chrome desktop. They do not show on mobile in Chrome and on Safari desktop and mobile.

I’ve made sure that the ads code is in the header of my website, I use SiteKit and everything is green, but the ads are not showing for some reason. Whenever I go to the Auto Ads section of Adsense, there’s a red ‘Get Code’ button as if it isn’t detecting the code. But I am earning a little – I think I could boost this by getting the ads to work correctly on Safari/Chrome.

Does anyone have any advice that might help?

    Thanks!

    Hi @fabiocrispim,

Sorry to hear your Auto ads are not appearing as expected with particular devices and browsers. While we’re limited to Site Kit plugin support I did take a look at your website and the AdSense snippet is missing the full AdSense URL. If you’re using Site Kit to insert your AdSense snippet the “src” value should include the below:
    https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?, as per this screenshot.

I suspect that you may have a caching or optimization plugin configuration that’s resulting in this issue. The AMP version of the snippet is correct, which also indicates there may be a caching or optimisation plugin making modifications to your AdSense snippet. Such optimisation plugins may not work on AMP URLs, due to their JavaScript dependency, which has some restrictions in AMP. Note also that I don’t see any ads on your canonical (non AMP) URLs, include from a Chrome browser, desktop and mobile.

If you’d like to share your Site Health information using this form I’d be happy to inspect your environment further.

    Hi @jamesosborne!

Thanks for your quick response. I use Autoptimize and Async JavaScript, could either of those plugins be causing this issue?

I’ve submitted my Site Health information too via the form you shared.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Thanks for sharing. I can’t be sure of the cause at this point, it could be a multi plugin issue.

Are you comfortable checking your sites source code? If so you can use the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, which it looks like you have active, to check your site without any plugins active. Doing so means you don’t have to to temporarily deactivate any plugins. After enabling only Site Kit while in troubleshooting mode you can check for your AdSense snippet, and see does it appear as expected.

Let me know if you need assistance with the above. An alternative is for you to temporarily deactivate any caching or optimization plugins, while mentioning it to me here once you do so. I can then check for the AdSense snippet on your site. If we can determine that the snippet appears as expected we can check some of your configurations.

    Hey @jamesosborne!

I’ve seemingly fixed the issue after deactivating plugins and refreshing my site on different browsers.

Autoptimize was the culprit, specifically the option “Aggregate all linked JS-files to have them loaded non-render blocking?”

Once I unchecked that, the ads began to show again! One problem is, I’m worried unchecking that may affect my page speed. Do you think there’s a way of keeping that checked while keeping ads on the page?

Thanks for all of your help!

@fabiocrispim thanks a lot for letting us know and glad to hear that you have found the problem. With regards to being able to leave that setting on with your ads showing, this would be a question for Autoptimize’s support team.

If however after speaking to them there is a follow up question for us then please do let us know and we will discuss further.
