After update to the new version I follow exactly all instructions. Copy/paste the consumer key&secret, fill in the Callback URL, etc.

But when I click at the button ‘Authorize New Account’ I get a twitter-page with this message:
[The “request token” for this page is invalid. This may be possible are already used or expired due to too old.]
    (translated from Dutch)

I also try it with a different Twitter-account but the same problem…

    Hmm, nobody have an idea?

For now I’ve installed the previous version of this plugin and my twitter feed will be fine on http://www.gkvwezep.nl.

But I really don’t understand why I couldn’t authorize the new version.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to reproduce this. Can you try the current development version: https://github.com/OpenRange/twitter-widget-pro/archive/master.zip

So far everyone who’s had a problem with authorizing has had one of two issues:
    1) The callback URL wasn’t specified (or wasn’t a valid URL so Twitter removed it).
    2) Out of date CA certs, which causes the SSL verification to fail. The dev version disables the SSL certificate verification to try to handle this issue (even though the issue is really bad or out of date server configuration).

Hi Aaron, thanks for your time and reaction.
But, I’m so sorry… the current development version will not work, I got the same error.
Yes, I check and double-check the callback URL. Your instructions are very clear.
I’ve also tried with an another callback URL.

Is it a problem of my hosting-provider?

Is is an option that I give you a username/password of my WordPress site, so you can check it by yourself?

I know this is freeware, so I can imagine that you will not spent much time in this when I’m the only one with this problem.

For now I’ve installed the previous version again, that will works.

gkvwezep: Unfortunately working on your site individually is outside of the scope of free support for the free plugin. Sorry.

I hope you can get the issue figured out though, because the old version will no work after Twitter shuts down their v1 API.

    Aaron, I understand your policy.

Today I install the plugin Twitter Stream. Here I have to do the same things (make application, fill in consumers keys, and a specific callback URL).
And that will works perfect! In one time…

The link that Twitter Stream generate when you must click at the ‘authorize’ button was very longer (a long code after “https://api.twitter.com/oauth/authorize?oauth_token=”).
At your plugin I always see 1 number after the ‘=’.
Maybe that can help you to solve the problem?

Twitter Stream isn’t such a good plugin then yours. I really hope you can fixit because your plugin was perfect for me!

Hi, sorry to re-open this thread after so long, but I am having the same problem on one of our sites.

I have created the app on Twitter, including the Callback URL, copied the consumer keys across etc etc as per the instructions, and when I click the “Authorize New Account” button I get the following message from Twitter:

    Whoa there!
The request token for this page is invalid. It may have already been used, or expired because it is too old. Please go back to the site or application that sent you here and try again; it was probably just a mistake.

We have one site where we are using this plugin with no problems, and one site where we get this error. They are using different Twitter accounts, but seems kinda strange that we are now getting this error.

FYI, the site with the problem is using Version 2.5.4 of your plugin, and version 3.4.2 of WordPress.

For now I will need to find another twitter plugin, but I am really hoping we can resolve this issue as we really like your plugin 🙂
