Author permissions: edit own page?

  • Registered wordpress users may be assigned pages, no matter what their permissions are. Pages are, however, only creatable and editable by users at editor level.

In order not to assign too many people editor permissions, but on the other hand have them maintain some information in pages as well, I’d like to enable authors (the permission level) to edit own pages, publish and unpublish them (and maybe contributors to do exactly the first).

Can anyone point me to where to start?

    Thank you,
    Karsten

  • I’m looking for an answer for this as well.

This guy has written a fantastic role manager:

    http://www.im-web-gefunden.de/wordpress-plugins/role-manager/

Once you’ve installed it go into
    wp-admin > Users > Roles > add new roles

Give it a name e.g. Writer, then select the following options:

    • Delete Pages
    • Delete Private Pages
    • Edit Pages
    • Edit Private Pages
    • Edit Published Pages
    • Read
    • Read Private Pages
    • Upload Files

Any user with these permissions can write a page and save it as ‘private’ but not publish it.

N.B. I’ve only tested this with WP 2.5 not sure of the security model before that, I think it was more restrictive on the pages permissions.
