  • I’ve successfully given new users “Author” access, but new users cannot write posts.

    What gives?

I also see no place to change the access levels (0-10), though the documentation talks about it a lot.

  • No one has any ideas?

Users assigned the Author Role can publish posts.

New users are assigned a default role bases on the New User Default Role setting in the Administration > Options > General panel.

User Levels were replaced by Roles in WordPress 2.0 though the Role Manager Plugin allows you to manage the user_level capability. See:

I have a different problem with a new author. I am the webmaster for a church web site ( powered by WordPress. Pages are assigned to individuals to monitor and edit.

Since upgrading to 2.0.3 I have discovered that a new user assigned the Author role cannot open the Manage Pages page and when at the Write page can only write Posts. This in spite of having been assigned “author” of one of the older pages.

This is a major problem for me that must be resolved, even if I have to revert to 1.5.

At the time of this post the role manager plugin link in the previous post is broken, apparently due to a problem at the linked site. Can anyone else help??
