• Hello,

I am getting the following error on my site and on the wp-admin site:

Authentication Required. The server http://www.bodybydion.com:80 requires a username and password. The server says: whcl-01.sjl.

(You can see it if you try to view: http://www.bodybydion.com)

Putting my login info in does not get me to the site.

I have tried to find a fix online with no luck. Has anyone else run into this problem, and solved it? I am fairly new to wordpress and this site was created by another developer, though I have been updating it for the past year.

    Thanks in advance!
    Heather

I’d suggest looking at your hosting server to see what’s happening there, or ask your hosting company and see if they can help.

The only thing that I can think of that you could do to help straight away is to use FTP to get into your site and delete the main .htaccess file from the wp directory. That’s one way of getting rid of that authentication that I’ve heard.

Always make a good backup copy.

Thanks! I could not find a .htaccess file to remove. The person who set the site up, and maintains the relationship with the host says there is nothing wrong on the host side. I’ll keep trying. I appreciate your response!!

Does anyone else have any ideas? This site has been down for over a week, and I am not able to fix it. I am considering just moving to a new host, any thoughts on that?

    Hey @habartlow,

I’m not sure, but I think your website has been hacked. When I go to bodybydion.com, I get the same message that you described two days ago, which includes: “…com:80” & “whcl-01.sjl”. By the way, “:80” generally means “port 80” & “whcl” usually stands for “Windows Hardware Compatibility List” – long story, short: I think this is, essentially, a DNS configuration problem.

Also, I came across two tickets (one resolved) in the support forum that sound similar to your predicament:

Thank you @kenso! That was very helpful!
