Support » Fixing WordPress » Attempting to seamlessly transfer to new host, questions about Jetpack

  • Hello,

I am going to be transferring my self-hosted WordPress blog over to a new host in the next day or two but I had some questions before I begin.

Background: My old host is currently under a DDOS attack. This has made Jetpack, VaultPress and several other things misbehave. Currently, Jetpack is disconnected and I cannot reconnect it.

My blog URL is registered by WordPress.com (where my blog started out before I went self-hosted a year ago.)

    Here are my questions:

Is it better to redirect the nameservers of my URL to the new host BEFORE I set up my new WordPress install and transfer my files?

Since I will be using the same domain, do I have anything to worry about regarding loss of subscribers?

Apologies if these are newbie questions. I really do appreciate any help you can offer.

  • Upload your new site to the new host first and set it all up. You can ask your host how to acces the site before you repoint the NS that way u can be sure it is good to go and then u can update the NS and the site wont go down 🙂
